How do I connect my One Legal account to my state's electronic filing manager (EFM)?

Although you are already a One Legal customer and can use us to eFile in courts using an electronic filing manager (EFM), you do still need to register with the EFM. The EFM is a case management system being used by some courts in California, Indiana, and Texas. It is necessary to register with them for proper tracking of cases, parties and attorneys associated with cases. When you register with the EFM through One Legal, we do not share your billing information with that EFM.


Registration with the electronic filing manager is mandatory, for eFiling into many California, Illinois, Indiana, and Texas courts. It is a one-time registration that, once completed, permits access to all courts utilizing the EFM. You will create your username and password. Your EFM password can be the same as your One Legal password.

You can either create a username and password when you place your first eFiling transaction with an EFM court, or you can register prior to placing an order. If you choose to register with the EFM when you place an eFiling transaction, the system will prompt you to create a login (we are using eFileCA as an example):

If you would rather register prior to placing an eFiling transaction, simply follow these steps:

  • Once you login to your One Legal account, click My Account in the upper right hand corner.

  • Click eFile Registration.

  • Click the arrow next to the state in which you would like to eFile. If you do not have an existing account with your state's EFM, you will want to click Create A New Account. If you do, select instead to Connect To Existing Account. 

Once you have set up your EFM account, your registration is complete and you can file into any court using the platform.
