Illinois law states that when initiating a case in Cook County, you first have to attempt service of the summons through the Sheriff’s Office.
The eFileIL system doesn’t allow you to order service by the Cook County Sheriff directly, meaning many filers have to go to the Sheriff's Office to file the necessary paperwork. However, One Legal can do this for you.
1. Start an eFiling order and proceed to Order Information.
2. Go to the Options section.
3. Select “eFiling with Physical Process Serving.” One Legal will then arrange service of process by sheriff on your behalf.
