Understanding Sheriff Delivery

Learn about One Legal's Sheriff Delivery service

Some documents—such as writs of execution, writs of possession, or other court orders—must be delivered to a Sheriff’s Civil Process Department because the sheriff is responsible for carrying out those orders.

One Legal’s Sheriff Delivery service handles this step for you. We print and deliver your documents to the correct sheriff’s department, pay any required fees at the time of delivery, and confirm once the delivery is complete.

This service is available through the stand-alone Delivery workflow.

When you place a Sheriff Delivery order, One Legal will:

  • Print and prepare your documents for submission.
  • Deliver them to the appropriate county sheriff’s civil process department.
  • Pay any required fees at the counter when submitting your documents.
  • Provide confirmation once delivery is complete.

Whenever possible, we deliver copies (for example, electronically issued writs). If the sheriff’s department requires original documents, One Legal will contact you through your order’s Message section to arrange for originals to be sent.

When to Use Sheriff Delivery

Use this service when you need to have documents delivered to a sheriff’s civil process department for action or enforcement. Common examples include:

  • Writ of Possession – to be executed in an unlawful detainer (eviction).
  • Writ of Execution – for levy or garnishment.
  • Writ of Sale, Writ of Attachment, or similar orders requiring sheriff action.

This service is for delivery to Sheriff Civil Process departments only. If you need to file documents with the court, use One Legal’s Court Filing service.

Pricing and Service Levels

Sheriff Delivery pricing follows the same structure as Court Delivery:

  • Based on zone, page count, and urgency.
  • Additional fees apply for documents over 50 pages or marked Urgent.
  • All prices are shown on the Order Review page before submission.

See current pricing at onelegal.com/pricing.

Service levels:

  • Standard: Typically delivered the next business day.
  • Urgent: Same-day delivery if placed before the local cutoff, or next morning if after hours.

Confirmation

After your delivery is complete, a Confirmation of Delivery Report will be available in your account. It includes the date and time of delivery, the sheriff’s department location, and any notes from the delivery professional. Where allowed, a photo of delivery may also be provided.

You can view and download this report from the Order Details page.
