What Types of Service Can One Legal Handle?

An overview of the service of process options available through One Legal

Core Service Methods

  • Personal Service: A process server personally delivers documents to the named individual or business. This is the most common method and is completed with careful documentation of all attempts.
  • Substitute Service: If the person cannot be reached directly, documents may be left with a responsible adult at the residence or place of business, with follow-up mailing handled by One Legal.
  • Service by Mail: Where permitted, One Legal prints and mails your documents, then manages the Notice and Acknowledgment of Receipt (NOA) process from start to finish.
  • Posting Service: For certain case types (most often evictions), the server posts the documents at the residence or business, with the required follow-up mailing completed by One Legal.

Registered Agent Service

One Legal serves at all major registered agents nationwide. We offer discounted rates at eight national agents—including LegalZoom, CSC, and CT Corporation—and can serve at any other registered agent office as required.

Timing and Delivery Options

  • Scheduled Service: Request delivery at a specific date and time.
  • Stakeouts: A server waits at a designated location for a set period to complete service.
  • Witness Fee Payments: If a fee must be tendered at the time of service (such as with a subpoena), One Legal delivers the payment and documents it properly.

Out-of-State and International Service

  • Nationwide: Service is available in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, following the rules of the receiving state.
  • International: One Legal coordinates service under the Hague Service Convention and other recognized methods. These jobs may require more time and specialized document preparation.
